Updated: Troopers release identities of couple slain at cemetery

The Delaware State Police released the names of the victims who were shot on the grounds of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Rd., in the Bear-Glasgow area. a

The 86-year-old male victim has been identified as Paul C. Marino of Elkton, who was initially admitted to an area hospital in critical condition. On Saturday, May 9, Marino succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead  at the hospital. His wife, 85-year old Lidia Marino, of Elkton was pronounced dead on the scene at the time of the original incident.

No possible motive has been discussed by State Police.

The Delaware State Police earlier identified 29-year-old Sheldon C. Francis of Middletown, as the suspect responsible for the Friday morning shooting of the married couple. The shooting took place on the grounds of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, south of Glasgow.

Francis was located dead at around  4 p.m., on the date of the incident, in a wooded area located just off of Brennan Boulevard in the development of Brennan Estates,  adjacent to the grounds of the cemetery. 

Multiple law enforcement agencies were dispatched to the scene, which was cordoned off, with residents sheltering in place. 

An exchange of gunfire between Francis and officers had taken place at approximately 12:08 p.m. in the wooded area.  Francis was found to have sustained a gunshot wound. It is undetermined at this time if the wound was self-inflicted or as a result of the exchange of gunfire.
