Coronavirus death toll rises to 224 as test total moves toward 31,000 mark.

The Delaware Division of Health reported on Sunday that the number of deaths from coronavirus rose by three to 224. 

The daily update was based on data received as of 6 p.m. the previous day.  

Residents of long-term care facilities account for a high percentage of total deaths in Delaware. Deaths among younger people with no pre-existing conditions have been relatively few.

 Delaware ranks 12th  in deaths per 100,000 population among the 50 states and the District and Columbia. Ranking first was New York, with Wyoming having the lowest rate. The figures per 100,000 population are from Statistica.

A total of 224 Delawareans have died due to complications from COVID-19. Individuals who have died from COVID-19 ranged in age from 22 to 103 years old. The death of the 22-year-old was reported on Saturday.

Of those who have died, 120 were females and 104 were males. A total of 95 individuals were from New Castle County, 38 were from Kent County, and 91 were from Sussex County. 

The most recent deaths announced today ranged in age from 86 to 100. All three were female. Two were New Castle County residents, one was a Sussex County resident. All three of the individuals had underlying health conditions. Two of the individuals were residents of long-term care facilities.
