First I-95 Wilmington project gets underway on Wednesday

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announced  the first project related to the I-95 corridor rehabilitation project gets underway on  Wednesday, April 15

The $20 million  project will remove the existing I-95 southbound on-ramps and existing bridge structures for the 2nd Street and Jackson Street ramps and build a new ramp configuration for access to I-95 southbound.

Additional left-turn lanes will also be added on Lancaster Avenue to Adams Street and 2nd Street to the newly reconfigured on-ramp.

The 2nd Street on-ramp to I-95 southbound will close on Saturday, May 2, 2020, and will remain closed for the duration of the project. The Jackson Street on-ramp to I-95 southbound will close in August 2020.

The project will come with  nighttime intermittent lane closures from 8  p.m. until 5 a.m. Sunday to Friday, and road closures during certain phases of this construction. Traffic alerts and variable message boards will be posted to alert motorists of scheduled road closures.

The contractor for the nearly $20 million project is R.E. Pierson Construction, Inc., and is estimated to be completed by the end of 2020.

The full I-95 project gets underway in earnest next year. and is expected to lead to traffic detours and disruptions.
