The focus of Friday’s press briefing from Gov. John Carney centered on economic recovery and a portion of Sussex County.

The governor also announced that students will not return to school during this school year. The announcement had been widely expected as the number of positive cases continued to increase.

The governor said the state website now includes a location where residents can offer their thoughts the state’s economic recovery from the coronavirus crisis.

Carney noted that the rate of coronavirus cases in Sussex County continues to run at a  higher rate than comparable figures for New Castle County.

Carney said one encouraging sign is the lower-than-expected rate of hospitalizations.

However, the state has not yet seen a 14-day-long decrease in cases, a recommendation from the federal government in efforts to reopen businesses.

In focusing on Sussex County, Delaware Department of Health and Social Services Director, Dr. Kara Odom Walker advised out of state residents not to check on their second homes.

Walker said those visiting the county run a greater  risk of contracting the virus.

Speaker both Spanish and English Walker urged residents in Sussex  to seek medical care. The Georgetown area, which has seen a cluster of COVID-19 cases, has a large population of immigrants, some of whom have not reached out for help.
