Christiana and Concord malls are now listed as closed after Gov. John Carney’s order that shuttered  “nonessential” businesses. The order became effective on Tuesday.

Christiana Mall, south of Newark, noted on its website that essential stores might be open. That would seem to be a reference to the Target store, which has remained open and is in the essential category, with departments such as groceries and a pharmacy.

Target has an outside entrance.

Dover Mall closed last week, after mall operator Simon decided to close its centers around the nation.

Christiana and Concord malls were holdouts. However one by one, anchors like Macy’s, Penney’s, Boscov’s and Nordstrom temporarily closed their doors as well as other regional and national chains. Food courts were closed under an earlier order from Gov. John Carney.

By the weekend, mall parking lots had a Christmas Day look. Concord Mall, located off Route 202 in north Wilmington,  is struggling with a rising vacancy rate and the closing of the Sears store.
