Dart Container again  confirmed plans to move distribution sites in Maryland. Dart had earlier announced its plans in Maryland.

The company sent along a previous release regarding the move. Not affected will be the company’s 750 worker production site in Federalsburg on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Dart, the maker of popular Solo cups, “will open a large distribution center in Delaware in 2020 and close its two distribution centers in Maryland next year after shifting inventory to the new facility. The Maryland distribution centers, located in Havre de Grace and Hampstead, together employ approximately 90 people.”

“The move to Delaware will enable us to consolidate inventory into a single location that serves our East Coast customers more efficiently from a trucking and logistics standpoint,” Dart CEO Jim Lammers stated.

The Havre de Grace facility will close sometime in the first quarter of 2020, while the Hampstead distribution center will remain open until the Delaware warehouse is completed sometime in the fall. Employees will be able to apply for positions at the new facility.

The location of the distribution center has not been disclosed.

“We will handle the closures of our Maryland facilities with compassion and provide severance packages to our people, because the employees affected by these strategic but difficult decisions deserve our thanks for their many contributions – first under Solo Cup Company and then with Dart.”

One of the factors contributing to the decision, according to published reports, was Maryland’s decision to ban Styrofoam that is used in some of Dart’s products.

Dart has been designing and producing food and beverage packaging since 1960 and  offers  more than 3,000 products used around the world in restaurants, convenience and grocery stores, coffee shops, sports arenas, schools, healthcare facilities, outdoors and in the home.  For more information visit www.dartcontainer.com.
