Spirit Airlines is kicking off service to Charlotte, NC from Baltimore-Washington International Airport beginning this week.

In addition to BWi, Spirit now offers nonstop daily flights from Charlotte Douglass International Airport to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Newark.

The  routes will operate year-round.

Charlotte marks Spirit’s fourth destination in the Tar Heel State, joining the Piedmont Triad, Asheville, and Raleigh-Durham.

Charlotte is an even larger  “fortress hub” for American Airlines than Philadephia.  Baltimore-Charlotte service from Spirit, which also serves Philadelphia International Airport,  could provide leisure travelers with some relief from higher fares.

By summer 2019, Spirit will have more than fifteen daily departures across North Carolina.

Spirit offers low fares in return for charging for seat assignments, luggage and drinks.

“Spirit Airlines’ expanding service to Charlotte will help spur economic activity in the area and show that North Carolina is a great place to live and visit,” said Gov.  Roy Cooper of North Carolina.
