WHYY took a look at soda taxes around the country and found evidence that the controversial levies cut consumption, but not as much as some had anticipated.

Taxes vary widely, with Philadelphia taxing beverages with artificial sweeteners as a way to use the proceeds to finance schools. The impact of the soda tax in Philadelphia is reduced by residents going outside the city to buy their beverages. 

The soft drink industry also continues to push for the repeal of the tax.
