The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating this evening’s fire and explosion inside a Hockessin-area home.

DelawareOnline and other media outlets identified the owner of the home as former New Castle County Executive and Police Chief Tom Gordon.

The Hockessin Fire Company were called to the home in the Belle Terre development shortly before 8  pm for a report of a fire inside the house.  Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and render the home safe from any further damage.

An explosion had occurred inside the home causing damage to a first-floor room.

A fire inside the same room was quickly extinguished.  Investigators are searching for the ignition source that ignited flammable vapors inside the home.
