Delaware State University moves into the Ebook future

Hello all,

Delaware State University recently  took a big step toward the use of disruptive technology when it handed out iPads to all incoming freshman.

The program was done in partnership with Apple, which obviously has a vested interest in the movement toward Ebooks.

The goal is to move the university and students away from the often-onerous cost of buying college textbooks that resell for a fraction of their original cost, or in my case sit on a shelf as a reminder of times gone by.

Worse yet, information in paper textbooks has become obsolete far more quickly than in the past. By contrast, E-textbooks can be updated on the fly.

In a way, the changeover is sad, and many people will prefer an overflowing bookcase to a mobile device.

Hardcover books continue to sell, but when it comes to the high cost of going to college, the move toward electronic textbooks should have happened years ago.

Delaware State University has moved to the fast lane on the information superhighway and other universities should follow their lead.

Here’s to a sunny day. This newsletter returns tomorrow. – Doug Rainey, publisher.
