The Greater Wilmington Convention & Visitors Bureau, Kent County Tourism and Southern Delaware Tourism hosted a joint luncheon for the Delaware  legislators earlier this year as part of the week-long celebration of National Travel & Tourism Week.

The luncheon was held in the Tatnall Building next to Legislative Hall in Dover.

Members of the Senate and the House of Representatives attended the luncheon.

Executive Directors from Greater Wilmington Convention & Visitors Bureau, Kent County Tourism, Southern Delaware Tourism and the State Tourism Office welcomed the legislators and thanked them for their support.  Several board members, staff and tourism partners were also present.

Following the luncheon, a delegation from the tourism met with Governor  John Carney.

Convention bureaus are funded through a portion of the state lodging tax.

Last year, legislative leaders came close to stripping convention and tourism bureaus of that funding.

Current proposals before legislators  that call for New Castle County and municipalities to impose an additional room tax of as much as three percent do not earmark a portion of the tax for convention and visitor  bureaus.
