Wilmington managed to make the top half of a ranking of job opportunities, with Dover trailing its northern neighbor.
Wilmington ranked 78th in a job opportunity report from the personal finance website, WalletHub. Dover came in at 125th.
WalletHub compared more than 180 U.S. cities across 26 key indicators of job-market strength. Factors ranged from job opportunities to employment growth to monthly average starting salary.
Topping the list was the Silicon Desert employment hotspot of Chandler, AZ. The Phoenix-area suburb is the home of many technology companies.
At the bottom was Shreveport, LA. Philadelphia came at No. 116, with Baltimore at 145.
The Delaware Valley region has seen subpar job growth over the years, with cutbacks in areas such as chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
The newest ranking comes as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ most recent jobs report, shows the national unemployment rate at a 17-year low.
College graduates, especially, will see a strong boost in their job prospects. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, employers plan to hire 4 percent more members from the Class of 2018 than from the previous graduating cohort.
