Looking back at two great years

Good morning all,

Congratulatory notes on the second anniversary of the rebranding to Delaware Business Now have been coming in during the past week via LinkedIn.

Granted, it is easy to simply press the button, but along with the canned responses came a number of nice personal notes. Thanks so much for your kinds words.

Given the pace of change in the online world, the second-anniversary milestone passed us by. It was nice to look back to the LION conference in Chicago and a presentation by San Angelo Live’s Joe Hyde on the power of newsletters.

Within a couple of months, a daily newsletter was launched and received an enthusiastic response. Rather than an expected five to 10 percent drop-off in subscriptions from added frequency,  we actually saw a small gain.

As for the website,  the number of visitors has risen 14 percent from a year earlier. This followed a 28  percent gain from 2015 to 2016.

Last summer and fall, new formats for the website and newsletter were rolled out.

The changes allowed more time to post content and improved the overall quality of the posts.

A couple of folks have said we look too corporate, but, after all, our focus is business.

Delaware Business Now is also seeing successful 2017 on the financial side with a 15 percent increase in sales. This compares to reported double-digit declines in print media.

And by running lean and mean,  our enterprise remains profitable.

One of our guiding principles is keeping pitches out of your In Box. Other than an occasional survey, we will not send out separate advertising or promotional pleas via email.

With that said,  we would like to let you know that our enterprise offers an outstanding value for advertisers through our ability to reach an audience of engaged decision-makers.

And thanks again for the nice notes. – Doug Rainey and Sharon Rainey
