Mayor Michael S. Purzycki joined Downtown Visions Executive Director Marty Hageman welcomed  The Coffee Mode coffee shop downtown Wilmington.

The ribbon-cutting event took place at Coffee Mode’s new location, in the lobby of the Citizen’s Building at 919 North Market Street. Also attending today’s event were Wilmington City Council President Hanifa Shabazz and 4th District City Council Member Michelle Harlee.
“A thriving city and downtown district is strengthened not only when large, corporate partners expand their base of operation, but when the small businesses in our City succeed,” said Purzycki. “All City businesses play an extremely important role in the lifestyles of those who live, work and enjoy our City.”
Coffee Mode’s owner, Ben Cordova, is not new to coffee or to Wilmington.

His work includes Hockessin’s Over Coffee and Wilmington’s LOMA Coffee. He opened that storefront on 3rd and Market Streets in an effort to create a space for community, as well as to help develop what has now become a thriving block full of diverse businesses.

“I see (businesses)…I see community…I see opportunities to bring people together through coffee,” Cordova said.
Coffee Mode’s “third wave coffee” approach to its offerings makes for something different on Market Street. In addition to their proprietary blends of organic coffees, which are sourced from nearby Elixir Coffee Company, they offer an array of items including organic smoothies, nutritional health shakes, loose Hugo tea and pastry’s from Market Street Bread & Bagel, pour-over coffee, kombucha tea (fermented tea blended with juice) and other offerings.
