Construction has resumed on a Newark hotel, after a brief shutdown last month over a construction issue.
City of Newark spokesperson Kelly Bachman said the issue was resolved after the shutdown over “structural issues with the hallway and exterior weight-bearing walls.”
The multi-million dollar six-story hotel is off College Avenue and near Interstate 95 on the southern end of the city.
Ground was broken on the hotel last summer. Click here for an earlier story on the hotel.
The Candlewood is being developed by Wilmington-based SSN Hotels. SSN also owns the adjacent Red Roof Inn hotel (formerly Howard Johnson). The company operates or has under development 19 hotels on the East Coast.
The SSN website lists a March 2017 opening for the limited service, all-suite hotel.
The hotel attracts business travelers making multi-day stays. Candlewood Suites is part of the parent company that franchises Holiday Inns.
On the eastern end of the city a SpringHill Suites by Marriot is under development at the corner of Library Avenue and Ogletown Road.
Demolition of the building that formerly housed the Newark Toyotaworld showroom has been delayed as DelDOT studies access to the hotel site.
The Newark Post reported work could begin at the SpringHill site in November.
