Delaware  Tech announces Coca-Cola leader

 Delaware Technical Community College nursing student  Shannon Freeman was selected as a 2016 Coca-Cola Leader of Promise Scholar by the Phi Theta Kappa honor society.

The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program provides new Phi Theta Kappa members with financial resources to help defray educational expenses while enrolled in associate degree programs. Scholars are also encouraged to assume leadership roles by participating in Society programs.

Chosen from more than 1,100 applications worldwide, 207 Phi Theta Kappa members have been awarded a total of $207,000 in scholarships to further their associate degree studies. Independent judges evaluate the applications based on scholastic achievement, community service and leadership potential.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation provides $200,000 in funding for the scholarships, with $25,000 set aside for members who are veterans or active members of the U.S. military. The remaining amount is supported by donations to the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation and provides Leaders of Promise Global Scholarships, earmarked for international students.

Nason names construction director

Nason Construction, Inc. announced that John Burton has been hired as the new Director of Construction.  He will oversee all on-site project operations for Nason’s Delaware and Delmarva regions. He will work hand-in-hand with our site Superintendents and Project Managers to manage a smooth and successful project from the moment the first shovel goes into the ground, through punch list and project close-out. He will maintain contact with our clients and provide excellent, hands-on customer service.

Burton has more than  28 years of general contracting and contracting experience, with responsibilities that includes the management of subcontractors as well as overseeing the construction and business operations aspects of his own company.  He specializes in both residential and commercial construction and has a background in carpentry.

Burton joins law firm

Montgomery McCracken announced that  William J. Burton has joined the firm as an associate in the Wilmington office.

He has experience in civil, criminal, and corporate law, and has worked on matters related to wrongful termination, personal injury, workers compensation, and social security matters.

Before joining Montgomery McCracken, Burton served as a law clerk to the Honorable M. Jane Brady of the Delaware Superior Court. He received a J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from Widener University School of Law in 2015, where he was the Internal Managing Editor for The Delaware Journal of Corporate Law.  He earned a B.A. degree, cum laude, from West Chester University, where he majored in Political Science and an A.S. degree in Business Administration from Harrisburg Area Community College.

Beebe Medical Group adds child neurologist

Nicole Ryan, MD, Board Certified in Neurology with Special Qualification in Child Neurology, and Board Certified in Epilepsy, has joined Beebe Medical Group.

Before coming to Beebe, Ryan completed her residency training in child neurology and fellowship training in pediatric epilepsy at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She spent six years as an attending physician and Assistant Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania, treating pediatric neurology patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings.

She completed her medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, and received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Cornell University.

At Beebe, Ryan looks forward to providing pediatric neurology outpatient services for children on the Delmarva Peninsula while working with the emergency department and inpatient team to improve all aspects of care. She is the only pediatric neurologist on Delmarva below Dover.
