LaFond to head Wilmington Trust Family Wealth division

Wilmington Trust promoted William T. LaFond to head of its Family Wealth division. In his new role, he will oversee the delivery of advice and services for many of Wilmington Trust’s largest and most prominent client families.

LaFond joined Wilmington Trust in 2004, and was most recently the regional president for Wealth Advisory for the Greater Washington, D.C. and Central Virginia regions. LaFond was previously the head of business development for Wilmington Trust’s Family Wealth division. He has two decades of experience advising clients on investment management, trust and estate planning, risk management, business succession, and retirement planning issues and insights.

“Bill’s deep wealth advisory experience and commitment to our clients makes him the ideal person to lead our Family Wealth team,” said Mark Graham, executive vice president with Wealth Advisory at Wilmington Trust. “Serving family clients has been at the heart of Wilmington Trust for more than a century. LaFond holds a Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law, and a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Scranton.

George, Miles & Buhr, LLC welcomes employees

George, Miles & Buhr, LLC (GMB) welcomed the following new employees.

David Gray joined GMB earlier this year as a Surveyor.  He has 8 years of previous experience as a Land Surveyor Assistant.  He graduated from Delaware Technical Community College and Wilmington College.

Deane Townsend joined GMB’s Architectural Group as an Architectural Designer.  Deane recently graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Architecture.  He is currently working on the design of Perdue AgriBusiness Corporate Office in Delmar.

Benjamin Hearn, E.I. joined the Seaford office as an Engineer. He is a recent graduate of the University of Delaware, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.  He is currently working on a renovation project at the Movies at Midway in Rehoboth Beach.

Jake Erskine, Evan Halloran, Gene Wildonger, and Tim Van Vonno, have joined us as interns for the summer months between college semesters.  Kevin Prag and Caleb Taylor are currently engineering interns while simultaneously attending local colleges.

GMB is also announced the following promotions within the firm.  Nick Lloyd was promoted to Construction Services Group Leader; Gilbert Spears was promoted to Assistant IT Director, and Harlan Elliott was promoted to Senior Designer.

Easter Seals names board member

Easter Seals Delaware & Maryland’s Eastern Shore recently welcomed Rotary District Governor, Clif Hutton, of Dover; to its Board of Directors.

Hutton is District Governor for Rotary District 7630. He is now retired after a long career in teaching, counseling, coaching and administration. His career includes working for the State Department of Education in many roles, but ending with the State Director of Student, Family and School Services. He also filled his time with teaching graduate classes at the University of Delaware and Wilmington University.

He initiated a number of programs including: the high school Career Guidance and Placement Program, Jobs for Delaware Graduates program and designed the master degree program in school counseling at Wilmington University. He served for the U.S. Army and Army reserves for eight years.

Darden Restaurants honors managers

Two local restaurant managers have been recognized at the national level for achieving parent company Darden Restaurants’ Diamond Club status. They join a group of top-performing Managing Partners and General Managers recognized nationwide this year for their commitment to delivering guest experiences at the highest level, while making a difference in the lives of guests, team members and in their community.

The local managers include:

Mike Links – General Manager of the Bahama Breeze in Newark

Adam Knorr – Managing Partner of the LongHorn Steakhouse in Bear

The  award recipients join an elite group of just 86 General Managers and Managing Partners recognized this year from the more than 1,500+ Darden restaurant managers in North America.

Delaware Urban Land Institute unit names co-chairs

The Delaware Regional Satellite Council of Urban Land Institute Philadelphia (ULI Philadelphia), a non-profit organization whose mission is to is to provide leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide, has announced that James A. Landon and Douglas M. Hershman will join Jay L. White as Delaware Regional Satellite Council co-chairs.

The Delaware Council engages the state’s public and private sector members through events and programs and supports membership and community outreach throughout Delaware.

Landon is a Partner at Morris James in the firm’s Real Estate Practice group. Landon’ practice primarily focuses on real estate transactions and land use, but he has been involved in many aspects of construction and real estate investment throughout his career.

Hershman, Director at Cooch and Taylor, brings a background of real estate law and banking to this leadership position. Hershman has represented all aspects of the real estate industry throughout Delaware and its surrounding regions.

In addition to their responsibilities to the Council, they also serve on ULI Philadelphia’s Advisory Board.   The Advisory Board serves as the local leadership for ULI Philadelphia and is made up of a diverse group of leading real estate and land use professionals who volunteer their time to build a strong Philadelphia presence for ULI.
