Lilley first in state to pass commercial drone exam

DroneRobert  Lilley, of Middletown,   announced he became the first person in Delaware to take and pass the FAA Part 107 Exam.

Lilley is an associate with  RE/Max  in Middletown. Drone footage is becoming  increasingly popular in marketing homes.

Passing the exam allows an individual to fly drones for commercial purposes.

The exam is part of work by the Federal Aviation Administration to regulate the fast-growing industry.

Hobbyists are exempt from the license requirement.

Bloomberg reported that commercial use of drones is growing rapidly, with a railroad announcing plans to inspect tracks. and utilities likely to do similar work on power lines.

The Delaware River and Bay Authority also authorized a test to determine if drones can be used for the inspection of bridge cables.

Also, Delaware Bay was the site of a test to determine if medical supplies could be delivered to areas cut off by natural disasters.
