Elena Delle Donne, Nike and the Chicago Sky WNBA team gave every baby born at Christiana Hospital on Saturday a free pair of tiny Nike sneakers, NBC 10 TV’s Tim Furlong reported in a Facebook post.
This comes after Delle Donne won a Gold Medal in the Olympics as a member of the USA Women’s Basketball team. Delle Donne came off the bench as a member of the talent-rich team that dominated its opponents in Rio.
The following note came with the shoes:
“It all starts now. 26 years ago, it started in Wilmington for a little champ just like you. And today, Elena Delle Donne conquered the world. Maybe, someday, that could be you. Or maybe you’ll choose to do something else. There really are no limits to your potential. Whatever you decide, get up. Get out. And get started. Life moves fast. And in these, it will move a little faster. Just do it. Unlimited future.”
Elena Delle Donne is an official spokesperson for Christiana Care Health System. She was born at Christiana Hospital on Sept. 5, 1989.
Delle Donne, who earned Most Valuable Player for the WNBA as a member of the Sky, is featured on Nike Commercials. She has also done work for DuPont. (Includes information from Christiana Care).
