Cajun Kate’s, the popular food stand in Boothwyn, PA, plans to open a second location near Wilmington at 722 Philadelphia Pike, DelawareOnline.com reported.
As its name indicates, Cajun Kate’s, specializes in Cajun and Creole food at the Delaware County location near the Delaware state line.
The Boothwyn location was started by Delaware Valley residents Don and Kate Applebaum 10 years ago after the couple moved back from New Orleans. Both worked at top restaurants in the Crescent City and share tips online on the best dining spots.
Kate Applebaum became well known in Wilmington while working as chef at Harry’s Seafood on the riverfront. Some dishes came with a Cajun touch. An October opening was mentioned in the Delaware Online story.
Harry’s owner Xavier Texido also worked in restaurant management in New Orleans before returning to Delaware.
The Boothwyn location has been open two days a week, but has enjoyed a thriving carryout and catering business over the years, even after a brief boom in Cajun restaurants came and went in Delaware County.
The Philadelphia Pike location will have more seating that the Farmers Market location, but will keep the self-service approach of the Boothwyn location.
The Applebaums did not immediately respond to a request for comment on their plans.
