Troopers have arrested a Rehoboth Beach couple in connection with a three-month shoplifting spree at the local Giant food store.
The incidents ran between February 4 until Sunday May 8 around 3:50 p.m., when Loss Prevention Officers at the Giant Supermarket, at 19312 Lighthouse Plaza Boulevard, took David B. Sankey, 53, and his wife, Diana Sankey, 60, into custody at the store.
Troopers said the couple had been entering the store on an almost daily basis since the beginning of February and would conceal items such as meats, hygiene products, and other grocery items, but would pay for other items in their cart.
The Loss Prevention officers had been conducting surveillance on the duo and were able to apprehend them without incident on Sunday afternoon. The total amount shoplifted over the course of the three months was more than $790.
The couple were each charged with 83 counts of Shoplifting Under $1,500.00 and 83 counts of Conspiracy 3rd. They were both released on $16,600 unsecured bond.
