Claymont ranked as most stressful area in Delaware

A job  website has ranked Claymont as the most stressful  area  in Delaware.

The ranking from Zippia   was based on the unemployment rate, commuting time, the percentage of income spent for rent, population density and the percentage of the population without health insurance.

Zippia operates a website that helps individuals fight the right career.

Ranking as the second most stressed city was Elsmere, followed by Wilmington and  Wilmington Manor.

Ranking as the three least stressed cities were Hockesssin, North Star and Lewes. All three communities have high average incomes.

The data came from the U.S. Census’ American Community Survey for 2010-2014.
Claymont’s economy has struggled for decades, with long-time employer Evraz Claymont Steel shutting down a few years ago.

The mill site is being razed, with a developer planning a mixed-use commercial site. Other redevelopment projects are underway.

Elsmere, Wilmington and Wilmington Manor (actually a community in the New Castle County have also dealt with blue collar  job losses and a flight to other areas.

Wilmington has been struggling with a high homicide rate in a few neighborhoods.
