Nanticoke Health Services id offering Genius 3D mammography exams, developed by Hologic, Inc.
Hologic is using advanced breast tomosynthesis technology, Genius exams are clinically proven to significantly increase the detection of breast cancers, while simultaneously decreasing the number of women asked to return for additional testing, a release stated.
Hologic has an employment site in Newark, DE.
In conventional 2D mammography, overlapping tissue is a leading reason why small breast cancers may be missed and normal tissue may appear abnormal, leading to sometimes unneeded callbacks.
A 3D mammogram at Nanticoke includes a three-dimensional method of imaging that can greatly reduce the tissue overlap effect.
This exam includes both 2D images and tomosynthesis scans.
A 3D exam takes just a few seconds longer than a conventional 2D breast cancer screening exam.
The new system is recommended for women of all ages and breast densities. The system allows our radiologists to more effectively pinpoint the size, shape and location of abnormalities, a release stated.
“We are extremely pleased to be able to offer 3D mammography at Nanticoke,” said Missy Babinski, director of Radiology at Nanticoke Health Services. “This latest technology allows for better, earlier breast cancer detection. The Genius equipment allows the radiologist to better evaluate your breast tissue layer by layer. The ultimate goal is to screen for breast cancer with greater accuracy.”
