bayhealth02Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware has warned members that it has been unable to reach the agreement with Bayhealth and its two hospitals, Kent General Hospital, and Milford Memorial Hospital.

Highmark told members in a letter that if an agreement is not reached by May 15, using Bayhealth facilities would incur a higher out-of-network out of pocket charge or no coverage for plans without the out-of-network provision.

“Bayhealth’s current high rates are unsustainable and will result in higher premiums and costs for our members. We are negotiating on behalf of our members because the higher rates at Bay health increase health care cost for you, our members.”

The lack of an agreement would not affect emergency services and certain other situations. Those with Medicare Supplemental or Medigap coverage would not be affected.

“Please be assured that Highmark Delaware and Bayhealth will continue discussions, and we are hopeful we can reach a new agreement,” the letter stated.
