M&T Bank vice chairman gains new responsibilities

M&T Bank Corporation announced that Vice Chairman René F. Jones will undertake new managerial responsibilities effective May 2. In addition to his continuing oversight of the bank’s Treasury function and Wilmington Trust division, he adds two new business lines, Mortgage and Consumer Lending.

Jones joined M&T in 1992 and has held a series of management positions within the Finance division.  He was promoted to Chief Financial Officer and joined the bank’s Management Group in 2005, and he was named Vice Chairman in January 2014.

M&T also announced that Executive Vice President Darren J. King will become Chief Financial Officer.

As head of M&T’s Retail and Business Banking divisions, King has been responsible for more than 6,700 employees, 800 branches and 1,600 ATMs serving 2.1 million households.

He joined M&T in 2000 and was named to the Management Group in 2010.  His experience in the financial services industry spans more than 25 years and includes senior leadership roles at Mercer Management Consulting, the predecessor firm to Oliver Wyman, where he was Vice President in the Financial Services Practice.
 Rob Julian named Vice President

Pearce & Moretto, Inc., has named Rob Julian a vice president of the Middletown-based civil/site construction company. He will be responsible for estimating, pre-contract negotiations, project management, and project close-out.

Julian, who joined Pearce & Moretto in 2012 as chief estimator and senior project engineer, began his career in construction with his family business, John Julian Construction Co., advancing from a general laborer to the estimator. He operated his own construction business for eight years and then worked with other civil and site contractors before joining Pearce & Moretto.

Julian attended the University of Delaware.

 

Cecil College  names VP of finance

Cecil College announced that Daniel Thompson is the new vice president of finance.

Thompson, who most recently worked at J.P. Morgan Chase in Newark, Delaware for one year as vice president, core loan operations followed by three years as vice president, AML alert operations.

In 2003, he founded The Thompson Agency, a multiline insurance firm in North East, MD specializing in commercial and agricultural coverage, and ran the business as its managing director for nine years. During this time, Thompson was recruited to join the Cecil College Foundation by longtime member Ingo Zeise. He accepted the offer and spent the last seven years on the foundation, including one year as its chair.

As Cecil’s chief financial officer, Thompson is tasked with providing leadership and oversight for budget management, the controller’s office, procurement, payroll, facilities management, public safety and security, auxiliary services, grant fiscal management, capital construction projects, risk management and insurance, and leases, agreements and contracts. While much of his time will be spent overseeing the daily financial operations, he said he  welcomes the opportunity to serve as an ambassador of the college as well.

The opening was created when longtime Cecil College employee Christine Valuckas announced she would be retiring after 30 years of service.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, with a major in accounting, from Shippensburg University in 1990. Early in his career, he worked as an accountant and auditor and spent four years in a variety of roles with a large international information technology company, Computer Sciences Corporation, Inc. Thompson also served in the U.S. Army and had been a financial advisor as well. Along the way, he received a Master of Business Administration in both international business and finance from the University of Delaware and was awarded certified financial planner designation by The American College.

Craig Whiteford joined the staff as the college’s controller. Whiteford, who had been the Cecil County Government budget manager since December 1998, previously spent four years as the county’s deputy treasurer.

Patterson-Schwartz Real Estate adds Rogerson

Patterson-Schwartz Real Estate welcomed Cassie Rogerson to their Rehoboth Beach office as a sales associate licensed in Delaware.  She graduated from Wilmington University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing, She has been a licensed Cosmetologist since 1998 and is a member of the Sussex County Association of Realtors.
