Alfonsi Named President of PAFP

WSFS Financial Corporation announced that Lynne Alfonsi, Vice President, Cash Management Relationship Manager, was named the President of the Board of the Philadelphia Association for Financial Professionals (PAFP). Founded in 1976, PAFP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging professional growth through education in the field of Treasury Management. The PAFP is an affiliated regional group of the national organization, the Association of Financial Professionals.

Alfonsi joined WSFS Bank in May of 2015 and brought along with her over 20 years of Relationship Management in the area of Cash and Treasury Management. In her role as Vice President of Cash Management, she advises her clients in the areas of cash and treasury management.

She attended Philadelphia University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Management. Alfonsi is currently a Financial Coach for Clarifi, a nonprofit organization that promotes financial literacy.

GMB Announces New Owners

James H. Willey, Jr., P.E., Managing Member of George, Miles & Buhr, LLC (GMB), announced  the following promotions.  Chris B. Derbyshire, P.E., Katherine J. McAllister, P.E., W. Mark Gardocky, P.E., and Morgan H. Helfrich, AIA, LEED AP were promoted to Vice President and welcomed as new owners.

Christopher B. Derbyshire, P.E. has served GMB for 14 years and is a Sr. Project Manager in the Salisbury Water/Wastewater Group. In his tenure with GMB, he has been responsible for overseeing both design and construction of seven different BNR/ENR upgrades for local municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP). Currently he is working on the construction phase services for the Fruitland WWTP and design/construction projects for various sewage pumping stations throughout the area. Derbyshire is highly regarded as an expert in the region, as evidenced by

Katherine J. McAllister, P.E. joined GMB’s Water/Wastewater group in 2005. As a Sr. Project Manager in the Salisbury office, she has extensive knowledge of municipal public works, funding agency requirements, rate structures and grant writing, as well as strong technical skills.  She chairs GMB Scholarship activities, coordinates data collection with the Wicomico Creekwatchers’ group, and participates with the Sunrise Rotary Club on behalf of GMB.  Last year, she was featured in Water & Wastes Digest magazine in a special section highlighting young water professionals as “Ones to Watch”.  She is currently managing the team implementing a $6 million project to bring safe drinking water to residents of Wicomico County with deteriorating wells.

Mark Gardocky, P.E. has been with GMB’s Sparks office for 21 years and is a registered professional engineer in Maryland and Pennsylvania. He is currently Sr. Project Manager on projects for the City of Baltimore, Howard County, and Carroll County, including City of Baltimore Sanitary Contract No. 908. This project is nearing construction completion and is one of a number of projects implemented to address Baltimore’s sanitary sewer overflows.

Morgan H. Helfrich, AIA, LEED AP, joined GMB in 2006 and serves as the Architectural Group Leader.  A registered architect in Maryland, Delaware and Virginia, she has designed public and private buildings throughout the Delmarva Peninsula.  Recently, construction was completed on her design of the new EMS facility for the Caroline County Department of Emergency Services.  In addition, her design for the Millville Town Hall Addition will soon initiate construction.  She currently serves as the lead architect for the Perdue AgriBusiness new corporate office building to be located in Delmar, Delaware.  Morgan participates on the Architectural Engineering Technology (AET) Advisory Committee for Delaware Technical Community College and the ACE Mentoring Program for Wicomico County Schools.

Promotions at Delaware Hospice

Delaware Hospice announced the addition of the following individuals to its staff:

Therese Harkins Ganster, MSW, ACSW, of Selbyville as a Palliative Care Social Worker. Ganster received a Master’s Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master’s of Social Work from West Virginia University. She has experience as a Director of Social Services, Continuum of Care and Pastoral Care and Western Pennsylvania Hospital Branch Director.

Whitney Layton, RN, BA, as Case Manager for Sussex County. Layton holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Associates Degree in Nursing.

Consolata Opande, CNA, of Dover as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Opande received her degree from Polytech Adult Education, Delaware and holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nairobi. She has six years of experience working as a caregiver.

Famalta K. Sumowalkt, CAN, of Newark as a Certified Nursing Assistant.

Targett named to Board of Trustees

The Delaware Public Policy Institute (DPPI) elected Dr. Nancy Targett to its Board of Trustees. A member of the UD faculty since 1984, Targett has served as Dean of the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment (CEOE) and director of the Delaware Sea Grant College Program since 2005. A nationally recognized expert on ocean issues,. Targett is immediate past chair of the Board of Trustees of the Consortium for Ocean Leadership and immediate past treasurer of the Sea Grant Association, a national network of 32 Sea Grant College Programs. She has served on the Ocean Studies Board at the National Academy of Sciences and the Mid-Atlantic Fisheries Management Council. She was selected as an Aldo Leopold Leadership Fellow.

Targett was appointed as Acting President by The University Board of Trustees at UD as of July 1, 2015.

Delaware State University new appointments

Delaware State University has announced the following appointments:

Jasmine Buxton has been appointed as associate vice president of Student Affairs. She will report to Dr. Stacy Downing, vice president of Student Affairs, and will oversee the Wellness and Recreation Center, as well as the departments of Student Leadership and Activities, and Spiritual Life.

Buxton has worked at several universities throughout her 10-year higher education career, including most recently at Bowling Green University, where she served as the assistant dean of students.

A native of Dayton, Ohio, she has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Black World Studies with a concentration in African American Literature from the Miami University of Ohio, as well as a master’s degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education from Indiana State University.

Terrell Holmes has been appointed as the interim associate vice president of Enrollment Management. He will report to Dr. Downing and will oversee Student Financial Aid Services, as well as the offices of the Registrar and Admissions.

Holmes has been with the DSU Office of the Registrar since 2005, serving as associate registrar, Banner functional lead, as well as the registrar since December 2008. A native of Laurel, Del., he has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science (Summa Cum Laude) from Voorhees College in Denmark, S.C., and a Master of Science in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.
