John Farrell, of the Aetna, Hose Hook and Ladder Co.,  passed along news of a  recent  rescue  that flew under the media radar.

According to a release from Farrell,  a man ended up with injuries in a hard-to-reach location some distance away from the CSX tracks east of Newark.
The terrain and the underbrush at the scene led firefighters to use chainsaws to cut a path, with the New Castle County High Angle and Confined Space Technical Rescue Team coming to the scene.
Six New Castle County fire departments with specialized rescue equipment along with rescue technicians responded, with ropes, rigging and other rescue equipment. CSX train traffic was halted for a time.
The victim was secured in a metal stretcher basket and to an open area. The victim was taken to Christiana Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Forty firefighters, rescue technicians, and EMTs worked on the scene for 90 minutes.
The story serves as a reminder to the business community  of the work done under difficult conditions by our first responders. Much of that work goes unnoticed.  You deserve our deepest thanks.
