Dogfish Head ranked high in a survey of readers of Zymurgy’s magazine’s survey of top brewers and beers. The magazine serves home brewers.
The 90-minute IPA from Dogfish Head ranked ninth among a list of about four dozen beers. The brewery’s 120-minute IPA was in a three-way tie for 28th.
The magazine also offered the recipe for the 90-Minute IPA for anyone wishing to attempt to clone the Dogfish brew.
Among craft breweries, the Milton, DE brewery ranked seventh and tied for sixth on the best portfolio of beers with 37 varieties.
Craft breweries, like Dogfish saw a double-digit gain in sales last year. Overall beer sales were flat.
The trend has led the big guys to snap up craft brewers as a way to build volume. It also led to a proposed merger between the foreign-based owners of Miller and Anheuser-Busch.
Dogfish Head, perhaps looking at a shakeout one day in the brewing industry, took on a private equity partner.
