Hayes of UD named Philly Fed corporate affairs Vice President

The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia has named University of Delaware communications chief  Deborah L. Hayes as senior vice president of Corporate Affairs effective January 4, 2016.

Hayes will oversee the Public Affairs, Financial Institutions Relations, and Community Development Studies & Education departments. She will also direct the Bank’s outreach efforts to legislative, business, banking, and community groups and will manage the Bank’s Economic Advisory Council. She will report to President Patrick T. Harker, president, and chief executive officer.

Her appointment follows the naming of former UD Chief of Staff Patricia Wilson to a similar position at the Philadelphia Fed.

“Deborah brings extensive strategic communications experience from diverse sectors, including corporate, media, government, research, and higher education. Her innovative approach to outreach will serve the Bank well,” said President Harker.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to work with President Harker and the bank’s leadership team to help increase the engagement with the bank’s various stakeholders. It is a privilege to join an institution whose important research and outreach have an impact on a regional and national level,” Hayes said.

Currently, Hayes serves as the vice president of communications and public affairs for the University of Delaware.

Before joining the university in 2013, she served as the managing director of communications for The Pew Charitable Trusts from 2002 to 2011. She was a founding partner and president of media strategies for Westhill Partners, a New York-based firm, where she focused on the areas of communications, crisis management, and public affairs from 1999 to 2002.

Hayes began her career in broadcasting. With her expertise and passion for television news, she joined Oprah Winfrey/Harpo Productions in Chicago, where she led all communications efforts from 1994 to 1999. She was also responsible for managing Winfrey’s personal media relations. Before that, Hayes held a senior position at MTV Networks in New York City and was responsible for developing the company’s internal and external communications.

Hayes has provided communications counsel on Capitol Hill and served as press secretary for Congressman Richard Gephardt from 1985 to 1992. She also worked on presidential campaigns for Congressman Gephardt and Michael Dukakis.

The bank serves eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware.

WSFS names CFO

WSFS Financial Corporation the parent company of WSFS Bank,  announced that Kevin L. Thompson will join the company as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer effective December 7.

Thompson most recently served as Senior Vice President in Corporate Finance at Zions Bancorporation and before that served as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of American Express Centurion Bank. Before joining American Express Centurion Bank, Thompson relocated to Buenos Aires, Argentina to serve as the Latin American Controller for AgReserves Inc.

While at Zions, Amex, AgReserves and other previous jobs, Kevin gained broad and diverse experience in finance, treasury, asset and liability management, accounting, auditing, budgeting and forecasting, systems implementation, capital and risk management, process improvement, M&A and stress testing.

A Salt Lake City, Utah, native, Thompson is a 1998 graduate of Brigham Young University where he was named a Trustee’s Scholar. He earned his MBA from Brigham Young University in 2002 and was named an MBA Department Scholar. Mr. Thompson is a Certified Public Accountant, Six Sigma certified and fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.

Bancroft names vice presidents

‘Bancroft Construction Company announced it has appointed two vice presidents.

Cindy Campanella was named Vice President of Organizational Development to assist the company with its strategic organizational growth plan.

In this newly created executive position,   Campanella is responsible for Leadership, Human Resources, Organizational and People Development, External Affairs, and Strategic Initiatives.

Bob Batley was named to the newly created senior level position of Vice President of Business Development.

In his new role, Batley will lead the organization’s business development and work acquisition strategies, which includes managing the efforts of the preconstruction and marketing teams as well as expanding the business development staff in strategic markets.

Batley previously served as the Director of Business Development and Marketing at Nason Construction for three years where he successfully restructured several departments and developed strategic initiatives that resulted in significant company growth.

He is  a former business owner which   led him to consult with over a dozen schools, hotels and restaurants.  He was recognized with the 2008 Entrepreneur of the Year award by the Chester County Chamber of Commerce.

Prior to joining Bancroft,   Campanella held an executive position at the University of Delaware as Director and Assistant Vice President of Alumni Relations beginning in 2008.

Campanella previously held a variety of leadership positions at Bank of America (formerly MBNA America) for 21 years.

She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Delaware and her Master of Science in Management from Wilmington University. Campanella is past president of several non-profit agencies in Delaware and she is currently a member of Wilmington Rotary.

Hospice names trustees

Delaware Hospice announced the appointments of five new Board of Trustee members, Alan E. Atzrott, Janet Dougherty, Tom Hoyer, Kathleen S. Matt, MS, Ph.D., Joan Thomas. Each member will serve a two-year term.

Alan E. Atzrott of Rehoboth Beach, DE has over 41 years of experience in health/ hospital management with 28 of those years as CEO. Atzrott has extensive experiences in palliative care reimbursement, cancer center, hospice, and home health. He helped established Kaplan Hospice in Newburgh, NY. He holds a Master’s of Business Administration degree.

Janet Dougherty of Wilmington, DE is Vice President/ Relationship Manager at Fulton Bank, NA. Dougherty has experience working with Wilmington Jaycees and is a Board Member of the Wilmington Housing Partnership. She has currently been volunteering on the Delaware Hospice’s Finance Committee.

Tom Hoyer of Rehoboth Beach, DE has worked primarily in policy-making positions for the agency now called the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). His experience includes the full range of Medicare and Medicaid policy areas, including health and safety, coverage, and the development of several of today’s prospective payment systems. In 1982, Hoyer implemented the Medicare hospice benefit and was responsible for producing the regulations that established and governed the benefit. His interest in hospice led him to continue to manage hospice benefit policy in each of his successive positions until his 2002 retirement. Heholds a Master’s of Business Administration from Loyola College in Baltimore. The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization presented him with its Distinguished Public Service Award in 1996 as well as its Founders Award in 2004.

Dr. Kathleen S. Matt of Newark, DE is currently the Dean of the University of Delaware’s College of Health Sciences. She is also the Executive Director of Delaware Health Science Alliances. Matt has an extensive resume on Delaware’s various Boards and Councils regarding healthcare including being named Commissioner of the Delaware Health Care Commission, Governor’s Council on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, and Board Member and Treasurer of the Delaware Academy of Medicine.

As a congressional fellow and being apart of the Health Education and Labor and Pensions Committee she would closely with hospice organizations on their various initiatives.

Joan Thomas of Milton, DE works at Beebe Healthcare. Thomas is “committed to providing competent, compassionate, and respectful health care throughout the continuum of life.”  She is affiliated with the American College of Healthcare Executive, American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau National Nurses Honor Society, and the University of Delaware College of Health Sciences Advisory Committee.

Meyer named Benchworks VP

Benchworks recently named Christian Meyer to the position of Vice President of Strategic Accounts. His areas of responsibility include business development in the life sciences space and providing consulting services to brand teams supporting emerging campaigns and product launches.

Meyer has extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry having guided brands through varying strategies, market dynamics, and operational environments.

Before joining Benchworks, he was a Product Manager for the Neuroscience Business Unit at Shire Pharmaceuticals. Meyer was responsible for creating and launching a disease state education campaign and partnered with creative and scientific agencies to develop compelling marketing materials.

He has a bachelor’s degree in corporate communications from West Virginia University. He earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Villanova University.
