The Wilmington riverfront is losing one of its attractions.
In a social media post, the Riverfront Queen announced its departure at the end of the season.
“After 8 great years, it comes with great sadness to announce the departure of the Riverboat Queen from the Wilmington area. We had lots of fun, met great people and made memories that will last a lifetime,” a Facebook post announced.
The 100-passenger boat offered trips along the riverfront and gained some renown for its crab feasts on some of its public and charter excursions.
A farewell will take place on Thursday beginning at 5 p.m., with drinks and hors d’oeuvres.
The departure of the excursion boat comes at a time when the Riverfront Development Corp. has been working on the amenities side of the area, which has seen an estimated $1 billion in commercial and residential development.
The corporation has added a mini golf course and operated a skating rink last winter. It also operates the Delaware Children’s Museum.
