An effort is under way to convince legislators and the executive branch that looming budget cuts could cause place an added burden on the state’s nonprofits.
A forum on the issue, which will featuring officials from the state and the nonprofit sector, is slated to be held on Oct. 20 at the State Police Troop 2 Auditorium in Glasgow from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement (DANA) pulled together a working group of nonprofits to address the issue and helped organize the meeting that could fill the 150-seat auditorium, according to Kristen Davis of DANA.
The General Assembly and its Joint Finance Committee made cuts in the last legislative session and more are expected, due to a looming budget gap that could rise to $100 million or more next year, according to some estimates.
One cut that could already affect nonprofits that serve those in need came in general assistance program for those in more desperate circumstances.
