CSC names senior  intellectual property advisor

Corporation Service Co., a global provider of business, legal, and digital brand services, announced the appointment of Martin Brodén as senior intellectual property advisor for its Digital Brand Services division.

An experienced intellectual property expert, Brodén is well versed in protecting the IP of  global brands. Based in CSC’s Stockholm, Sweden office, Brodén most recently served as senior in-house counsel for Inter IKEA Group  for six years, and before that, he coordinated patent and trademark litigation at AstraZeneca for some of its best-selling products.

At IKEA, Brodén handled the strategic brand protection and managed the company’s patents, copyrights, designs, trademarks, and domain names. He closely followed ICANN’s New gTLD Program and was heavily engaged in protecting the IKEA brand through the implementation of brand policy. His experience working as an in-house lawyer in retail and pharma coupled with Internet, data privacy, IT, and marketing knowledge make him uniquely qualified to continue CSC Digital Brand Services’ mission to help clients protect and enforce their brand rights worldwide.

Brodén holds a master’s degree in law from the University of Stockholm, Sweden and has a master’s degree in public international law from the University of Nottingham. He is a member of the INTA Internet Committee and sits on its sub-committee for new gTLDs.

Strawbridge named military  director at Delaware Tech

David Strawbridge has been appointed the director of military and veterans services at Delaware Tech.

In this role, David will provide collegewide leadership for the development and implementation of College policies, services and programming for veteran and military students, their dependents, and fellow Delaware Tech employees.

He will work closely with the deans of student affairs and the veterans and service members counselors to oversee programs and services for student veterans. He will also assist human resources in developing programs and initiatives to support and engage military employees and their dependents. Strawbridge will coordinate the College’s student veterans organization Veterans Inspiring Progress (VIP) and lead the Collegewide Veterans Committee.

Prior to joining the college, he worked as an Air Force Reserve Officer on active duty supporting Headquarters Air Force, Air Force Special Operations Command, and the Defense Intelligence Agency. Strawbridge was twice deployed in support of Operation  Enduring Freedom, most recently returned from Afghanistan in 2013 where he was awarded the Bronze Star.  He is currently a traditional reservist assigned to the 512th Operations Support Squadron at Dover Air Force Base.

Gunnip  makes staff announcements

Gunnip & Company CPAs, Wilmington, recognized the following accomplishments and promotions of their staff.

Diane Urban CPA  has been promoted to Manager. Urban started her career at Gunnip in 2005 and is in the Accounting & Auditing and Entrepreneurial Services departments. She enjoys working closely with individuals, business owners, and their advisors.  She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Delaware and is a Quickbooks Certified ProAdvisor.

John Mraz CPA and Alex Masciantonio have been promoted to Supervisor.  Mraz is a lifelong resident of Wilmington and graduate of the University of Delaware.  He has been at Gunnip & Company since 2007, serving in the firm’s Special Purpose Entity and Tax divisions before joining the Audit Department in 2012.

Alex Masciantonio received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from West Chester University. He earned a Masters of Tax in 2014 from the Florida Atlanta University.

Jackie Doody, Amy Henretty,  Josh Hyman and Oliver Reid have each been promoted to Senior Accountant.

 Doody is a Senior Accountant in our Accounting & Auditing and Entrepreneurial Services departments and specializes in audits of employee benefit plans Small Business Accounting. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Delaware in 2012 and her CPA license in 2014.

Amy Henretty is a Senior Accountant in the  Tax department. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Delaware and is currently attending Villanova working towards a Masters in Taxation. She received her CPA license in 2014.  She will celebrate her second anniversary with the firm in June.

Josh Hyman received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Delaware and will celebrate his first anniversary in October.  He started as an intern with the firm in the summer of 2012 and returned to Gunnip in 2014.  He is currently working on his CPA designation, and works in the firm’s Accounting & Assurance department.

Oliver Reid was promoted to Senior Staff Accountant.  He worked as an intern with the firm while attending West Chester University and started full time after graduating in 2013.  He recently passed all four portions of the uniform certified public accountant exam and received his CPA designation this August.

Davidson named Siegfried president

Joan Davidson will join The Siegfried Group as its newly appointed President.  She will be working directly with Rob Siegfried, The Siegfried Group’s CEO and Founder and the firm’s Executive Team.

Over the past three years, Davidson has served as a valued member of the Firm’s Advisory Board, making many contributions as a member of its Leadership Committee.

Prior to joining The Siegfried Group, she spent nearly 20 tears at The Sheridan Group.  Sheridan is one of the largest print and publishing service providers in its industry.

Since 2007, she held the position of Group President, where she was responsible for, among other things, providing strategic leadership for Business Development, Marketing and Technology for all of the Sheridan Group companies: The Sheridan Press, Dartmouth Printing Company, Dartmouth Journal Services, and Sheridan Books.

Davidson joined Sheridan in October 1995 as a Finance Manager and was quickly promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer of The Sheridan Press in November 1996.  Prior to Sheridan, she worked at Noxell Corporation/Procter & Gamble (P&G) where she held positions of increasing responsibility in Marketing and Finance.  She has a BA from Notre Dame of Maryland University and an MBA from Loyola University Maryland..

Sorbello named Goldey-Beacom  external affairs director

Goldey-Beacom College announced that Janine G. Sorbello has been appointed as their new Director of External Affairs.

She will expand development efforts for the College as well as assume responsibility for alumni relations, public relations, and media. Sorbello has extensive knowledge in fund-raising, public relations, communications and has served in a volunteer capacity with many community organizations.

Sorbello brings considerable experience to her new post, most recently as Senior Vice President, Education for the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce, where she was responsible for the Superstars in Education and Delaware Principal for a Day programs. Prior to that position, she was an officer of the MBNA Foundation, working with  large  donations.

Roeber named assistant professor at Winterthur

Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library announced that Catharine Dann Roeber, Ph.D., joined the Research Division at Winterthur in August as the Assistant Professor of Decorative Arts and Material Culture in the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture (WPAMC).

Roeber received her Ph.D., in history from the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia. She also holds a master’s degree in early American culture from the University of Delaware as a Winterthur Fellow. Her primary field of expertise is the history and material culture of the Americas from the colonial era to the 20th century. While her dissertation and master’s thesis address the materials and architectural heritage of Philadelphia and southeastern Pennsylvania, additional areas of research include material culture studies, culinary history, and the history of print and ephemera.

She previously taught graduate and undergraduate courses at Winterthur, Villanova University, and the College of William and Mary. She also brings a diverse background of experience with archeology departments, research libraries, museums, and cultural non-profits to the position.

Exhibitions she has curated, co-curated, and coordinated at Winterthur, the Brandywine River Museum, and at local arts organizations include Tiffany: The Color of Luxury (2015), Bein’ Green: The History of a Color (2015), Adorned: Body + Art (2015), Table Talk: Philadelphia in a New Nation (2014), Common Destinations: Maps in the American Experience (assistant to curator Martin Bruckner, 2013), and Seeing Red: Southeastern Pennsylvania Redware from Winterthur (2011).

Whye joins realty firm
