The Container Store will open its doors on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the new Christiana Fashion Center. The center, which is located off I-95 southeast of Newark, is adjacent to Christiana Mall.
The popular Texas-based chain has about 70 locations. Its nearest stores are in Cherry Hill, NJ and King of Prussia, PA.
The Christiana store is one of 10 stores slated to open in fiscal 2015. The expansion will add 12 percent to the company’s total square footage.
Also slated to open in the center are Nordstrom Rack, Saks Off 5th, two off price retailers from well-known fashion store chains; outdoor retailing cooperative REI; and Jared, the Galleria of Jewelry.
The Container Store, like Newark-based W.L. Gore and Associates, has been listed in as one of the 100 top workplaces in a list published by Fortune Magazine.
It is described as the only retailer solely devoted to the storage and organization category of retailing.
The Container Store has more than store locations nationwide. Each store averages 25,000 square feet and carries 10,000 products.
Like its Christiana neighbors, REI and Costco, The Container Store is known for a having a loyal following as well as higher pay and more full-time employees than most retailers.
Adjacent Christiana Mall, meanwhile, is also a busy place with 11 new retailers now open or slated to open in 2015. Other retailers are moving to new locations as space opens up.
The mall, which has among the highest per square foot retailer figures in the nation, saw the departure of long-time restaurant tenant Ruby Tuesday and the addition, of a number of new retailers including Eddie Bauer and regional chain Villa Join the Movement. Click here for a story on the mall.
As part of its opening festivities the store will donate 10 percent of its proceeds to Nemours, the Alfred I. Hospital for Children.
