pbfThe Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Wednesday reported a pollution release of 200 pounds of sulfur dioxide last week from the Delaware City Refinery, owned by PBF Energy.

DNREC reported that the release occurred on July 22, at  7:12 p.m. The refinery reported the flaring took place, due to over-pressuration of a refinery unit.

The announcement was somewhat  unusual, since it took place several days after the release took place. Typically, such  incidents are reported within hours of the release. Environmental regulations require disclosure of toxic releases to the community.

Those seeking  information concerning this incident can contact the refinery  at 302-834-6000.
