Areas affected include Chestnut Hills, Christiana, Bear/Glasgow, as well as the River Road area, the company stated on its website.

The company  stated that it has  launched  repairs after locating a large water main break that caused water pressure problems overnight.

The company hopes  to complete repairs this afternoon, depending on the difficulty of fixing the main.

The United system is the water utility  in a large portion of northern New Castle County, with Artesian and municipal systems serving other areas.

Earlier this year, United it would move to a monthly billing cycle.

Reasons for the billing include providing smaller regular payments for customers on fixed incomes and a way for customers to better monitor water usage. Small leaks can develop without the knowledge of the home or business owner or the utility.

United is a part of the French-based Suez Environment.
