PBF Energy Inc. announced that its Toledo refinery has experienced an unplanned shutdown of its Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit due to a compressor malfunction.

“We expect the FCC to be out of service for approximately two to three weeks,” the company reported in a statement. “We are continuing to monitor the situation in order to properly assess the economic impact of the unplanned downtime. The refinery continues to operate other units at reduced rates and expects total throughput for the second quarter to be approximately 130,000 to 140,000 barrels per day,”

Full-year production for the Toledo refinery is expected to be 145,000 to 155,000 barrels per day.

PBF, which is based in northern New Jersey, operates three refineries, with its largest refinery in Delaware City. The company also operates a refinery in Paulsboro, NJ.

The company purchased the Delaware City refinery after the financial crisis of 2009 with the help of a state aid package.

Former owner Valero had shuttered the refinery, which was headed to demolition.

PBF has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the site, which employs about 500, with hundreds of additional jobs from suppliers, contractors and other operations.
