Flex-gate_stairwell_2ILC Dover has signed a contract with J-Track LLC to produce 23 Flex-Gate  flood control systems for subway stairwells in New York City.

The gates from the Frederica company are designed to protect the subway system from another storm like Hurricane Sandy. J-Track will perform the custom stairwell measurements, on-site preparation, and installation work required to install each Flex-Gate.

Once installed within the stairwell opening, the Flex-Gate is ready for use at a moment’s notice. In less than five minutes a single operator can deploy the cover and lock it down. The system can hold back 14 feet of water.

This approach eliminates the need to store components at a remote location, and allows the subway system to remain in operation for as long as possible prior to the onset of the storm.

“ILC Dover’s flood protection solutions protect our customers’ assets at a life cycle cost that is lower than any other system. Flex-Gate systems are installed at the site allowing it to stay open until the last possible moment before a storm and re-open without the delay necessitated by damage repair or restoration. Citizens and businesses will be able to get back to their lives and work faster after a storm,” said Alan George, business development manager at ILC Dover.
