CenturyLink adds Bloom fuel cell system

CenturyLink, Inc. added a Bloom Energy fuel cell system at its site in Irvine, CA.

Century is the large data and telecommunications company that acquired USWest and other carriers.

“Synchronizing the fully commissioned Bloom Energy fuel cells to our electrical infrastructure supports the escalating power demands for network and IT infrastructure in an environmentally sustainable way,” said David Meredith, senior vice president at CenturyLink. “Businesses that use multi-tenant data centers and cloud-based solutions, like those offered by CenturyLink, are contributing to a better environment, which is further enhanced by technologies such as Bloom Energy.”

The bulk of Bloom fuel servers are built in Newark. California offers generous incentives for use of fuel cells Bloom is headquartered in California.

The Bloom servers are powered by natural gas or gas from landfills.
