Friday fires cause heavy damage

fireThe Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating fires in New Castle and Sussex counties on Friday that caused more than $1.2 million in damage to a business and a nearly completed home.

A fire in Milton on Friday heavily damaged Clean Delaware Inc. a septic tank pumping company.

The blaze was reported at 06:43 am. The Milton Volunteer Fire Company, assisted by Ellendale, Georgetown, Greenwood, Houston, Indian River, Lewes, Slaughter Beach and South Bowers fire companies extinguished the intense blaze.

The wastewater treatment facility was engulfed by the time the fire departments arrived.

A propane tank behind the facility exploded shortly after their arrival. The structure and approximately 12 vehicles were destroyed. There were no reported injuries.

Damage was estimated at $750,000. No cause was listed.

The Odessa Fire Company was called 400 block of Georgiana Drive in the Crossland at the Canal development just before 4 p.m. on Friday  Upon arrival, firefighters observed flames engulfing the home. A home next door sustained  some damage from the fire.

State fire investigators were called to the scene and launched an investigation into cause of this blaze. The home was under construction and near completion. No one was at the home at the time..
