Delaware ranked eighth or 12th lower in the nation (if the cost of living is considered) when it comes to a recent calculation of the tax burden.
The report from WalletHub showed the state ranking just above North Dakota. Ranking first was Wyoming with New York ranking at the bottom.
The ranking reflects the lack of a sales tax and low property taxes, particularly in Sussex County, a fast growing area of the state.
Among neighboring states, New Jersey ranked 44th, with Maryland at No. 41. Pennsylvania ranks 37th.
Another earlier ranking paints a different picture
The nonpartisan Tax Foundation ranks Delaware’s 2011 tax burden of 10.14% ranked 15th highest out of 50 states.
