Cabela’s Inc. will celebrate the official grand opening of its Christiana, Del. store on May 1.

A ribbon cutting ceremony, hosted by Cabela’s executives and guests, will begin at 10:45 a.m. and doors will open for business at 11 a.m. The ceremony will kick off a weekend-long celebration of Cabela’s first Delaware location highlighted by celebrity appearances, family events and giveaways.

The 110,000-square-foot store is at 1100 Christiana Mall, adjacent to Christiana Mall near the intersection of Interstate 95 and Delaware Route 1. The store is expectred to employ about 250 full-time and part-time employees, primarily from the local area.

The store’s interior is being built in Cabela’s next-generation layout, designed to surround customers in an outdoor-like experience. The exterior reflects Cabela’s popular store model with log construction, stonework, wood siding, a large glass storefront and metal roofing.

The outdoors chain is using newer and smaller formats. In the past, many Cabela’s stores were in rural areas or outer suburbs and came with more square footage. The company has gained tax and related inventives in some areas. No such incentives were used at the Christiana location.

In addition to thousands of outdoor products, the store will include a walk-through aquarium, indoor archery range and archery tech room, gun library, fudge shop, bargain cave and mountain replica featuring North American game animals re-created in their natural habitat.

Currently, Cabela’s operates 50 stores across North America with plans to open an additional 23 over the next two years.

Cabela’s Incorporated is headquartered in Sidney, Neb. It is the world’s largest direct marketer, of hunting, fishing, camping and related outdoor merchandise through its well-known catalog and website.
