Nordstrom came to Delaware in 2011 with a  store ia Christiana Mall. The single-level, newly built Nordstrom Rack will be surrounded by a strong tenant mix, a release stated.

Nordstrom has about a dozen rack stores between New York and Washington, D.C.

Excavation work on the large tract has been taking place for a year and speculation has grown on possible tenants.

Potential tenants were said to be waiting for the competition of the Interstate 95-Route 1 project to see if it improved traffic, especially during the critical holiday period. The bulk of that project was completed last fall.

“We have been looking for ways to better serve customers in Delaware and we’re thrilled with the opportunity to open a Nordstrom Rack near our full-line location at the Christiana Mall,” said Geevy Thomas, president of Nordstrom Rack. “Many of our best Racks are across the street from our full-line stores and we know our customers like the convenience of shopping both.”

“We’re excited to bring many new retailers to the Christiana Fashion Center line-up that will add to the existing Delaware tax-free shopping experience,” said James H. Oeste, vice president of real estate at Allied Retail Properties. “We welcome Nordstrom Rack as being the first of many fine retailers to come.”
