Long & Foster claims second spot in real estate rankings

Long & Foster announced it is now ranked No. 2 in closed volume in the state of Delaware. Among larger firms, the company is the fastest-growing real estate broker in the state.

In 2013, Long & Foster’s transactions and settled volume both increased by more than 40 percent in the state, while sales volume has increased by more than 55 percent. Also, the number of homes sold by Long & Foster in Delaware increased by more than 72 percent in 2013, and in New Castle County alone, the company doubled the number of transactions compared to the previous year.

“We are very proud of Long & Foster’s success in Delaware in 2013,” said Gary A. Scott, president of Long & Foster Real Estate. “This year, not only are we the fastest growing real estate company in the state, including in New Castle County and Greenville, we’re also the No. 1 real estate company in Sussex County.”

Scott has set a goal of growing Long & Foster in Delaware into the state’s largest residential firm. In 2012, hired R.T Christopher, son of the retired head of Patterson-Schwartrz, the largest residential broker in the state. Larger real estate broker groups, including Levy Wilson, joined Long & Foster, further bolstering  sales figures.

Scott grew up in the real estate business in Delaware. He was an executive with his father’s company, B. Gary Scott, (now Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox and Roach). Fox and Roach is widely believed to have held the No. 2 slot in northern Delaware.

That company was sold to Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, a real estate “roll up”  from the massive company headed by investor Warren Buffett. HomeServices that has been buying and franchising real estate firms  that operated with the Prudential name.

Long &  Foster is focused on becoming the dominant broker across the state of Delaware. The company will continue its expansion in New Castle County and has plans to add new offices in Kent County and possibly other key locations in Delaware.

Long & Foster Real Estate represents more than 10,000 agents in seven Mid-Atlantic and Northeast states, plus the District of Columbia. The company sold more than $24.8 billion worth of homes and helped nearly 75,000 people buy and sell homes in 2012.
