Poppel joins Novak Druce

Novak Druce Connolly Bove + Quigg LLP announced that Karen Riesenburger Poppel has rejoined the firm as an associate in its Wilmington office. Poppel brings to the firm experience representing clients in patent litigation.

“We are pleased to welcome Karen back to our Wilmington office and our growing litigation team,” said Greg Novak, managing partner and CEO of the firm. “It’s nice to see a former Connolly Bove associate return to our Delaware litigation group. Karen is a great addition. We expect our expansion in Wilmington, a center for patent litigation, to continue.”

She holds a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Master of Science in chemistry from Emory University, and a Juris Doctor from the George Washington University Law School. While at law school, Poppel served as a judicial extern to Judge   John M. Facciola in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.

Poppel was previously an associate with Connolly Bove Lodge & Hutz LLP, which merged with Novak Druce + Quigg at the beginning of the year. Prior to joining the firm, she was an associate in the Philadelphia office of another national law firm.

 

Eddens honored

Peggy H. Eddens, WSFS executive vice president and chief human capital officer, was honored by Delaware Today magazine as a recipient of the “Women in Business” award.

Eddens was one of 33 women honored for their leadership during an annual luncheon in Wilmington, Delaware on December 3, 2013.  Delaware Today highlighted  businesswomen for their leadership and outstanding accomplishments throughout the Delaware community.

Sussex employee of year

Sussex County has named Jennifer A. Norwood of Milton the 2013 employee of the year for County government.

County Council President Michael Vincent on Friday announced this year’s winner during the annual Mildred King Luncheon for the County’s approximately 500 employees. Mrs. Norwood was selected by her co-workers from a field of four employees, all quarterly winners this past year, for the honor.

Norwood, this year’s third quarter winner, received a standing ovation from employees as she was presented with a plaque.

 

“I’m honored and humbled that my coworkers have recognized me with this award,” said  Norwood, who is a clerk in the Planning & Zoning office and the recording secretary for the County’s Board of Adjustment. “I don’t feel I do anything out of the ordinary or that I’m special. I just try to work hard each day, and treat people like I would want to be treated.”

County Administrator Todd F. Lawson commended  Norwood for more than 22 years of service, which began in 1991 as a clerk in the Assessment division.  Lawson praised  Norwood for her professionalism, friendly personality, and sense of humor, as well as her willingness to go above and beyond to help the public and her fellow employees.

Reiver heads new Gawthrop Greenwood office

Gawthrop Greenwood, PC announced that it is expanding into Delaware. The law firm’s new offices are located at 3701 Kennett Pike, Suite 100, Wilmington. A veteran Delaware lawyer will head the office.

The firm has  23 attorneys concentrating in comprehensive practice areas throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware and the nation.

She is an Accredited  Estate Planner certified by the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils.

 

Joining  Reiver is P. Kristen Bennett, who concentrates her practice on estate planning and administration and trust administration, taxation, and tax planning for businesses.

 

Her work encompasses  wills  and trusts, including the probate of wills, the marshaling and inventory of assets, and the administration of living and testamentary trusts. She also occasionally represents clients in guardianship proceedings and petitions related to probate or trust administration in the Delaware Court of Chancery.  Founded in 1904, the law firm Gawthrop Greenwood, PC is based in West Chester, Pa.

Horticulture Center announces  board members

The Delaware Center for Horticulture  announced five new members to the Board of Directors: They are: Michael; McGowan, New Castle County Director for U. S. Senator Chris Coons;; Kash Srinivasan, Kash Srinivasan Group Principal; Connie Stafford, DuPont Company Facilities Consultant; Wilmington Councilwoman Sherry Dorsey Walker, and Dottie Howatt, president of the Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs.

“The new members add a strong, diverse skill set to a talented Board that is leading The DCH into an exciting phase of redeveloping and expanding our Trolley Square headquarters to better serve the community with programs that educate, inspire and green neighborhoods,” said Executive Director Pamela Sapko. In three decades with DuPont, Stafford has worked with volunteer teams to plan, develop, maintain the company’s on site wildlife habitats and achieve Wildlife Habitat Council certification.

McGowan is U.S. Sen. Chris Coons’ New Castle County Director and a longtime member of  the center. He is a former county police chief.

Srinivasan is a Principal in the environmental firm Kash Srinivasan Group.  He is a former public works commissioner for Wilmington.

City of Wilmington Councilwoman  Walker is CEO of the independent film company SWAP Productions and is active in community affairs.

Howatt is President of the Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs. She brings to TheDCH a wealth of horticulture knowledge and experience. Howatt is an Accredited Master Judge, a NGC, Inc. Flower Show School/Symposium Horticulture Instructor, Daffodil Instructor for the American Daffodil Society, and originator of the Prospective Instructor Program a member of the new FSS Horticulture book committee.

The Delaware Center for Horticulture works for improvement of the environment through horticulture, education and conservation. Founded in 1977, The center  plants trees statewide and leads regional community forestry projects; supports community gardens, urban agriculture and school gardens; organizes park improvement projects; beautifies Delaware’s roadsides with native vegetation; maintains urban streetscapes; and provides educational programs for children and adults.
