The Delaware Department of Transportation is getting out in front of a possible storm that could bring come along with bitterly cold temperatures. Roads throughout New Castle County were pretreated with brine, a salt and water mixture that helps to slow or eliminate snow or ice buildup on the roadways.
DelDOT reported the storm could hit Thursday when commuters and school buses will be getting back on the road after the New Year’s holiday.
DelDOT noted that meteorologists with the National Weather Service predicted starting Thursday afternoon an accumulating snow-fall may fall in Delaware and may last into Friday, accumulations will vary throughout the State depending on where snow bands may develop as the forecast is still too early to predict.

In Kent and Sussex County, crews will be ready to pre-treat roads early Thursday morning, if needed.
DelDOT struggled with a surprise Sunday snow earlier in the season that led to snow cover on Interstate 95 and other main routes.
DelDOT crews also spent today preparing snow plows and other equipment.
DelDOT said motorists, during the storm period, should limit travel to essential trips, allow plenty of time to reach destinations, drive with lights on, wear warm clothing and carry a fully-charged cellular phone with contact information if the vehicle becomes disabled in dangerously cold conditions.
