Boiler failure leads to pollutant release at Delaware City Refinery

A boiler failure led to the release of a number of pollutants at the Delaware City Refinery.

On September 28 at 11:44 a.m., an unknown amount of sulfur dioxide, hydrogen cyanide, hydrogen cyanide, anhydrous stabilized, ammonia and carbon dioxide was released into the air.

The release differed from others, which mainly consist of sulfur dioxide. There was no immediate word on the effect of the release on refinery operations.

The release is under investigation by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control.
