In June, the Stone Balloon Winehouse,  on Main Street in Newark,  announced that it would get together with  brewer 16 Mile.  Chad Campbell and Brett McCrea – owners of 16 Mile – and  Stone Balloon restaurateur Jim Bauerle, of the Graceland Group, developed  a gastro-pub featuring  local beers,  wine list and higher end tavern fare.

16 Mile Taphouse Chef Sean Howell will unveil the new menu with beer-infused pub food. Offerings include 16 Mile Beer Cheese Fondue, Beer-Battered Southern Fried Duck Confit, and Fried Potato Spaetzle served with Seared Venison Loin. “Our goal is not just to cook with beer. It’s to create amazing flavors that people will remember and want to enjoy again and again,” he said.

For those who like to take home craft beer, 16 Mile is offering a unique opportunity to enjoy growlers – 64-ounce glass vessels that look like moonshine jugs – with limited-edition beers at a   discount (for the weekend only. Plans are underway to release new beers during the weekend party.

The restaurant  stands where the legendary Stone Balloon rock-and-roll venue entertained generations of patrons until it closed in 2005. The new décor documents the history of the location and the brewing industry in the state.

“The Taphouse is already turning into the neighborhood pub. People are saying it’s a unique pub that, oh by the way, has the best wine and beer list in the area, not to mention award-winning food,” Bauerle said.
