Gov. Jack Markell is leading a delegation to Israel for a week-long economic development mission. The delegation includes Alan Levin, director of the Delaware Economic Development Office as well as representatives from legal, higher education and technology areas.

The meeting, according to the governor’s office is designed to generate interest in incorporating and doing business in Delaware.

The trip will include multiple meetings with high-tech research and development business leaders. The administration has been working to boost the state’s technology sector as  a way to  boost sluggish economic growth. Israel has a vibrant technology and start-up sector.

“ Thousands of Israeli-based businesses have incorporated in Delaware over the last decade.  Most high-tech Israeli companies incorporated outside Israel are registered in Delaware. Foreign-owned companies are the fastest growing part of Delaware’s franchise tax revenue and Israel is one of the top countries,” the release stated.

The governor and others will meet with Israeli incubator businesses as well as established small, medium and larger companies.  The visit will also include relationship-building meetings with Israeli economic and government leaders in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
