Cousins arrested after a wave of break ins in New Castle area

An investigation into a number metal, battery, and construction equipment thefts concluded Monday with the arrest of two cousins, Michael R. Quill, 33, and Francis M. Quill, 31. They are both from New Castle.

Michael R. Quill was charged with a burglary during the early morning of Friday, June 7, at Greggo and Ferrara, Federal School Lane, New Castle. He allegedly broke into an office building and storage unit and stole tools and construction equipment. He was also charged with stealing landscaping equipment from a trailer kept at a storage facility on Porter Road, Bear, on or before June 24.

Francis M. Quill was charged with removing batteries from a truck parked at Saf-Guard Safety Shoe Co., on Hessler Boulveard, New Castle, on the night of of June 6. At the same location he is accused of taking batteries from four trucks during the evening of June 17. The next night night reportedly broke into a fenced lot at SelecTrucks on North DuPont Highway, New Castle. Once inside he is accused of taking batteries from two trucks. He tried to remove batteries from other trucks, damaging those vehicles. He is also accused of taking power cables. Troopers said he broke into the same lot again on June 20, stealing six batteries from trucks.

Detectives also charged Francis M. Quill with thefts from four commercial vehicles at Bayshore Ford, 4003 North DuPont highway, New Castle. The thefts were were discovered on July 2. Quill also faces charges of removing copper wire harnesses and a battery from the vehicles.

The next day it was discovered that Francis was tied to a similar theft at Bayshore Commercial Trucks, 2217 North DuPont Highway, New Castle. He is accused of removing batteries and copper wiring from four vehicles, and taking scrap metal.

On July 22, detectives arrested Michael R. Quill at Howard R. Young Correctional Institute, where he was being held on unrelated charges. Quill was charged with burglary third degree, two counts of possession of burglar tools, theft over $1,500, three counts of theft under $1,500, two counts of criminal mischief under $1,000, and trespass second degree. He was held on $16,200 secured bail and remanded to the custody of Department of Corrections.

Also on July 22, detectives arrested Francis M. Quill at his residence. He was transported to Troop 2 and charged with burglary third degree, six counts of possession of burglar tools, theft over $1,500, five counts of theft under $1,500, criminal mischief over $1,000, four counts of criminal mischief under $1,000, three counts of trespass second degree, and two counts of trespass third degree. He was taken to Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $30,702 cash bail.
