Middletown – A Maryland man was arrested yesterday after committing a home invasion in Middletown.
The incident occurred at 1:00 p.m. when a 78-year-old female arrived at her home in the 700 block of Lorewood Grove Road. When she entered her bedroom, she was confronted by Timothy J. Martin, 27, of Galena, MD.
Martin was armed with a knife. A plastic bag with the victim’s jewelry was on her bed. Martin demanded money from the victim, who turned over cash from her purse. Martin then removed the batteries from the victim’s cell phone and cordless phones, and fled from the residence with the money and jewelry.
A few minutes later, a 67-year-old male relative of the victim arrived at the victim’s residence, unaware of what had just occurred. When the victim told him of the home invasion, the relative realized he had seen Martin walking along Lorewood Grove Road. The relative returned to his vehicle and drove along Lorewood Grove Road, and spotted Martin entering the passenger seat of a pickup truck.
The 67-year-old male followed the truck onto State Route 1 northbound, and to the exit for State Route 72, where the truck stopped at the end of the exit ramp. Martin then exited the truck, walked to the male’s truck, and punched the male in the face several times. Martin then threw the bag of jewelry into the male’s truck. Meanwhile, the truck that had been carrying Martin drove away, abandoning Martin.
As Martin began to walk away, the 67-year-old male began to follow Martin on foot, and Martin threatened the male with a rock.
A tractor trailer driver who was in the area of the assault called 911, and responding Troopers apprehended Martin in the area of Route 72 and U.S. Route 13.
Martin was transported by Troop 2, where detectives charged him with robbery first degree, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, home invasion, assault second degree, aggravated menacing, theft over $1,500, and malicious interference with emergency communications. He is being held at Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $198,000 secured bail.
